Career Position - Service Technician in Southern California

Service IconPrimary Job Objectives

  1. Represents Benz CAS to existing customers and future prospects as a professional organization with a desire to provide the value of top quality products and exceptional after-the-sale support.
  2. Repairs and maintains customer machinery and mechanical equipment such as air compressors, vacuum pumps, motors, and related equipment.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  1. Travels to and from customer location(s) to perform work.
  2. Lifts and loads equipment and materials onto company vehicles. Also unloads and lowers equipment and materials off of company vehicles.
  3. Observes mechanical devices in operation and listens to their sounds to locate causes of trouble.
  4. Dismantles devices to gain access to and remove defective parts.
  5. Examines form and texture of parts to detect imperfections.
  6. Inspects used parts to determine changes in dimensional requirements.
  7. Adjusts functional parts of devices and control instruments.
  8. Repairs or replaces defective parts.
  9. Installs special functional and structural parts in devices.
  10. Lubricates and cleans parts.
  11. Starts devices to test their performance.
  12. Sets up and operates lathe, drill press, grinder, and other metalworking tools to make and / or repair parts (Level II & III only).
  13. Repairs electrical equipment.
  14. Performs preventive, predictive, and routine maintenance procedures.
  15. Troubleshoots and identifies malfunctioning or inoperative equipment.
  16. Identifies problems by using electronic testing equipment.

Qualifications

To perform this job successfully, a Service Technician must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Education and/or Experience

Language Skills
Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.

Mathematical Skills
Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.

Reasoning Ability
Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions. Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.

Computer Skills
Knowledge of Word Processing software.

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations

  1. Valid California driver's license
  2. Valid FM3
  3. Valid Passport

Other Qualifications

  1. Willingness to work overtime when necessary.
  2. Occasional travel requiring overnight stay.
  3. Reachable during working hours and when on call.
  4. Neat and orderly work area(s), assigned company vehicle, attire and personal hygiene.
  5. Speak Spanish fluently (not mandatory, but beneficial).

The Service Technician must regularly lift and /or move up to 10 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move more than 100 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.

While performing the duties of this Job, the Service Technician is frequently exposed to moving mechanical parts; outside weather conditions and vibration. The Service Technician is occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions; high, precarious places; fumes or airborne particles; extreme cold; extreme heat and risk of electrical shock. The noise level in the work environment is usually loud.

We are a distributor of compressed air and vacuum pump systems who provides sales, parts and service to our customers. Our main goal is customer service, as stated below in our Mission Statement.

Our service technicians are allowed to work many overtime hours. Of course the workload varies, but on average many technicians can expect to work 6-10 overtime hours each week. Overtime is paid at 1½ times your regular rate... so that adds big dollars to your overall wage.

  1. Medical and Dental Insurance: you will be eligible for these the first of the month after 90 days from your hire date. After 90 days you are eligible for more benefits.
  2. Paid time off for 7 holidays per year.
  3. Vacation Pay: 2 weeks per year after your first year and after 10 years of service, you'll receive 3 weeks of vacation per year.
